In Los Angeles, or more specifically in Hollywood, just a few blocks away from the famous Chinese Theatre, there is a rather garish and large building. It is painted grey and pink, and stands out rather distinctly from the surrounding buildings. This unique building is called Frederick’s of Hollywood, and is a very famous and very distinguished lingerie store. Here you can buy an extremely wide range of different lingerie styles and types. But what is particularly cool and unique about this store, and what makes it suitable for this blog, is the so-called ‘Celebrity Lingerie Hall of Fame’. Here one can walk about and view their exhibits, which consist of lingerie worn by the rich and powerful at important events. Some examples include a top worn by Madonna, the boxer shorts worn by Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump and a corset worn by Ingrid Bergman. Check it out if you’re ever in the area.

Angelina Jolie is one of the most famous actresses working today. Actually, scratch that, she is one of the most famous people alive today. As well as her acting accolades, she has also been called the world’s most beautiful woman, a title which has only added to her fame. This is at least partially due to the excellent fashion and style choices that she makes when she appears in public. Her marriage to Brad Pitt, a man regularly featured on ‘sexiest men’ lists and articles, has also contributed to her massive public image and presence. Jolie and Pitt have recently appeared together at the Producers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills. Angelina dressed in a full-length black gown with floral patterns and a thigh-high slit. She also wore some great rose gold jewellery.

Colin Farrell is one of those people that just really annoy you with how good they look, and with how apparently little effort he needs to look so good. He also has that Irish charm, and the women love him. I may not be able to help you with the charm, but there are a few things that you can do try to emulate at least some of the things that make him into such a great-looking and desirable man. Firstly, Colin usually goes for that sexy, slightly unshaven look that is pretty popular nowadays. It gives him the sense of just a hint of danger, something that women love. Colin also loves to wear hats – caps, fedoras, you name it. He also loves to wear a lot of jewellery; necklaces, bracelets, earrings. This adds somewhat to his ‘bad boy’ image, along with his sexy stubble.

During this blog, we have mentioned fashion weeks a few times – but what exactly are fashion weeks? Fashion weeks are fashion industry events, which as the name suggests usually last approximately one week or so. They are designed to give fashion designers a platform from which to exhibit their fashion creations, and their latest collections. This gives a lot of these fashion houses some much needed exposure to show people what they have been able to achieve in their work. Fashion weeks also serve as very useful opportunities for members of the public and members of the fashion press to catch the first glimpse of the new creations that these fashion houses have managed to come up with. Many cities – especially those identified as ‘fashion capitals’ – have fashion weeks associated with them, such as Los Angeles, New York and Milan.

Golden Globes ’12

So last night was the Golden Globes in Los Angeles – an event always packed to the brim with some of the biggest celebrities with the most star power in the world. And fashion is always a big deal at these events; the reporters always line the red carpet to see which fashion designers are being worn by the various celebrities there – no jeans here! There is so much potential for the spotlight at events like this that the celebrities always try to wear their best and most carefully-designed outfits in order to keep their fashion images strong and in the public eye. A big trend at this years Golden Globe awards was nude-hued gowns, many of which were worn by various celebrities in attendance. These gowns, by big-name fashion designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, were worn by stars such as Heidi Klum and Jessica Biel. I expect that we will be seeing far more of these nude-hued clothes as the year progresses, because they look great.

Red Haired Beauty

People with ginger or red hair for some reason have kind of a bad reputation in our society. It’s quite common for kids that have ginger hair to be bullied at school. I am not really sure where this animosity comes from. I am not saying that this is such a serious problem, because this idea is normally just used as a kind of joke, and generally is not taken seriously at all, but the idea is still there. Of course, the idea that people with ginger or red hair are ‘strange’, or ugly is entirely without foundation. Just think of all the famous people that have red or ginger hair and you can see that this is not the case. Prince Harry, John Glenn, Lily Cole, Conan O’Brien and Kate Winslet are all great examples of how red-haired people can be beautiful and brilliant.

A handbag for a woman is really extremely useful. You have somewhere that can be available whenever you go out where you can store things so that you can keep your hand free. A man does not have this option – in fact, if he was to go out carrying a handbag, he would be quite likely to receive some very strange looks. Either that, or people would assume that he was carrying it for his girlfriend. This of course, means that men generally don’t have anywhere except for their pockets to store things such as small change, wallets, keys and so on. However, some celebrity men have bucked this trend, and started to carry bags with them. And since celebrities tend to be the trend setters in our society, maybe this means that bags for men will start to become far more popular. I can certainly see their usefulness. Amongst the big name celebs that have been seen wearing bags are Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman.

There are quite a lot of high-profile siblings that are famous and celebrities for one thing or another. One thinks about the Olsen twins – Mary-Kate and Ashley – who I have talked about in this blog in the past. The Olsen twins are former child stars who have now made considerable forays into the world of fashion, with their fashion designer output having met with considerable critical success. The Hilton sisters are another famous celebrity pairing of siblings. Maybe the newest addition to this select group are the Fanning sisters – Ellie and Dakota. They are actresses who have also met with a lot of success since their debut in the movie I Am Sam. These sisters, in addition to being successful in the acting business, are – like a lot of other actors and actresses – something of fashion icons. Many young people look to them to know what’s ‘hot’ in fashion, and what’s not.

One of the most popular items of footwear fashion for female celebrities in recent years has certainly been the ankle boot. It seems like you cannot go five minutes without seeing another female actress, pop star or television personality wearing these boots. And there are a number of very good reasons why it is a good idea to wear ankle boots. Probably the most important one health wise, is that they give your ankles far more support than other types of high heeled shoes such as strappy sandals, because of the tight fitting top part that surrounds the ankle. Big names such as Pippa Middleton, Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez have been spotted about town wearing various styles of these ankle boots. And if these big name stars are wearing them, then you know that they are definitely in style.

Isn’t it amazing how good some of the costume design can be on some of these massive Hollywood movies? I think that it’s really cool how they can research and capture accurately the look and feel of past historical eras through the use of carefully researched designs of the costumes used for the films. There are some really awesome historical dramas that are extremely well enhanced by the use of these costumes. And recreating the past is not the only thing that a skilled team of costume designers can do. They can also create the feel of a futuristic or fantastical environment through the use of clothing. This is the area where a costume designer’s creativity can really come into its own as they let their imaginations run wild, creating the wildest designs that they can think of to bring a totally new, vibrant and exciting atmosphere to the minds of the audience.
